We’ve Got Exciting News!
We’ve been jumping out of our skin around here lately, and for a GRRRRREAT reason!
The Experience of a Lifetime
The NEPA Philharmonic is cooking up a delicious recipe and it looks a little something like this:
World Renowned Violinist Mark O’Connor
The Valenches Music Company Violin Students
Combine above ingredients, set on stage, and experience the best “Boil ‘Em Cabbage Down” and “Frosty the Snowman” you’ve ever heard in the NEPA Phil’s “Appalachian Christmas”.
Mark O’Connor & Our Violin Students: TOGETHER
Yeah! That’s right! On December 14th and 15th, the Valenches Music Company’s violin students (and students of the Suzuki School for Strings in Wilkes Barre) will share the stage with international fiddle icon MARK O’CONNOR and the NEPA Philharmonic!
Could we be more excited?
Mark O’Connor: World Renowned Fiddler/Violinist
Mr. O’Connor is the ultimate well- rounded musician. Not only is he the BEST when it comes to fiddle playing (and darn fast, we might add), he’s designed his own teaching method, the “O’Connor Method”, which focuses on familiar American tunes and incorporates improvisation early on in addition to other more standard learning principles. (A side note to students (nudge, nudge), according to Mark O’Connor, “There is no substitute for time with the instrument.”)
Additonally, Mr. O’Connor has an impressive library of compositions to his name that are based on his one of a kind style, including “March of the Gypsy Fiddler” and “The Fiddle Concerto” (many of these pieces can be directly downloaded from his website). Rounding out the list of accomplishments, Mark has traveled the globe to collaborate with the Who’s Who in household music names including Wynton Marsalis, Renee Fleming, Yo-Yo Ma and James Taylor, to name a few.
Mark O’Connor boasts such an extensive resume of unique accomplishments that we couldn’t possibly do him justice here. We encourage you to visit http://markoconnor.com for an addictive dose of videos, articles, photos and an armload of innovative information.
Our Fiddlin’ Scranton & Stroudsburg Violin Students
For the past few weeks, Valenches Music Company violin students from Scranton and Stroudsburg, ages 3 through high school, have tucked away their Bach and Paganini to brush up on some fiddlin’ skills. They’re rising to the occasion, tenfold, for this once in a lifetime opportunity. It’s not everyday that they get a chance to share the stage with Mark O’Connor so these students are busy practicing their little fingers off. Inspiration doesn’t get any better than this!
Plus, “Virtuoso”, the Valenches Music Company’s exclusive self contained violin ensemble, will perform their signature four part Christmas Carols in the lobbies of both the Scranton Cultural Center and the F.M. Kirby Center as a prelude to the Philharmonic Concert.
